senate is back in session considering some legislation not related to the fiscal cliff today. i asked a spokesperson for senate democratic leader harry reid if all the democratic members would be here in town for a possible votes? he didn't get back to me. a spokesperson for the republican leader mitch mcconnell said however, that delays for republican senators are certainly possible. they got two of them in maine, harris. harris: right. the speaker is in ohio. so you have some pretty hard-hit areas. >> yeah. harris: what kind of advice are airport officials giving members of congress actually trying to get back to work? >> reporter: they're giving them the same advice we mere mortals get. take a listen. >> we would tell a member of congress the same thing we would tell any other traveler, check with their airline before they head to the airport to make sure their flight is on time. things in washington are in real good shape for their arrival. >> reporter: if there are any votes on the fiscal cliff later this week in the senate, the weather should be fine. that is system should be north of new england by then. we expect

. what haw hearing, any progress on the fiscal cliff thing? >> we are all watching and waiting to hear as the senate goes back into session any moment now. everybody i've talked to in recent hours says there are signs of progress, there's optimism, but as one key republican senator told me a few minutes ago, it will come down to those pesky details. vice president joe biden and senate minority leader mitch mcconnell the republican leader have been the key figures in these negotiations after talks stalled over the weekend between mcconnell and senate majority leader harry reid. mcconnell says he and the vice president spoke last night at 12:45, again at 6:30 this morning. mcconnell explained why he reached out to his former senate colleague mr. biden. >> i also placed a call to the vice president to see if he could help jump start the negotiations on his side. the vice president and i have worked together on solutions before, and i believe we can again. >> obviously we were watching to see what the senate does at this hour, what is said at this point i'm hearing it sound like 2:00 eastern time may be anot

in as you say. he knows he has the fiscal cliff waiting for him there back in washington. he attended a memorial service in hawaii for the late senator daniel inouye with the first lady. he is knowing that is what is happening back in washington still matters a great deal. and republicans on some of the sunday talk shows, like senator john barrasso of wyoming was on "fox news sunday" charging that the president really does want the nation to go off the cliff because then tax less go up. take a listen. >> when i listen to the president i think the president is eager to go over the cliff for political purposes. i think he sees a political victory at the bottom of the cliff. he gets all this additional tax revenue for new programs. he gets to cut the military which democrats have been calling for, for years. and he gets to blame republicans for it. >> reporter: democrats say that is ridiculous, that the president has been working with republican leaders again and again trying to workout some sort of a deal, both on spending and taxes to avoid the fiscal cliff, and democrat chuck schumer yesterday said the real problem is that republicans won't
